His most iconic design was the BD-5, a small, single-seat kit plane. You might recognize it in BD-5J form from the James Bond film, Octopussy.

BD5s are iconic, and risk aside, I’d really like one some day. They *do* have enough of a reputation as widowmakers that some people in their heyday probably would have laid money on Jim dying in one and not more natural causes... RIP, one of the true originals of the kit era.

Good riddance.
Moderately clever designer, but either he was an incompetent, overly opportunistic liar, or just an outright thief.
There’s still a lot of people out there who’ve never come back to private aviation because of him.
